ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Janie Bibbie’s time as Tompkins County’s Poet Laureate is coming to an end.

In February 2023, Bibbie was chosen for her dedication to poetry and her history of civic engagement. She recently attended her final Tompkins County Legislature meeting in an official capacity and shared reflections about the past two years.

Bibbie, the county’s 11th Poet Laureate since the position was created in 2001, also shared two poems at the meeting, “Legislator,” and “Getaway.” She was treated to a standing ovation. Her two-year appointment officially ends today.
