ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — Funding is available for the treatment and prevention of substance use.

The Tompkins County Whole Health Department says three requests for proposals have been released, with about $1.7 million in funding from the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports.

Primary Prevention Services ($184,782): This service aims to prevent or delay substance use and abuse in individuals, families and communities. Prevention service approaches include education, environmental strategies, community capacity building, positive alternatives and information dissemination.

Medically Supervised Outpatient Clinic ($168,545): This program provides outpatient treatment to individuals who suffer from substance use disorders and their family members and/or significant others. Services can be delivered at different levels of intensity based on the severity of an individual’s substance use concerns.

Medically Supervised Withdrawal and Residential Stabilization Services (~$600,000): This program provides appropriate levels of care to people who are acutely ill from alcohol and/or substance use disorders and who need a safe and supportive environment for withdrawal and stabilization. The program helps people gradually transition to lower levels of care, including rehabilitation, community reintegration, and outpatient treatment. These services will be provided at the Withdrawal and Stabilization Center, a 19,420 square foot building located at 2353 North Triphammer Road.

All three services were formerly provided by the Alcohol and Drug Council of Tompkins County before their sudden closure earlier this year.

“A comprehensive continuum of care for substance use prevention and treatment is critical for preventing, delaying, and supporting recovery from substance use disorders,” says Commissioner Frank Kruppa. Together with other local services, these three funding opportunities can create a full pathway to recovery, serving residents needing the most intensive inpatient and residential supports as well as those seeking rehabilitative, outpatient, and community-based care.”

Proposals must be submitted by 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20th.
