ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A Tompkins County department is preparing to make a long-awaited move.

On July 20, the Office for the Aging (COFA) will begin serving clients from its new location near the airport.

The county purchased the property at 31 Dutch Mill Road in August 2025 to temporarily house two departments during the construction of the Center of Government in Ithaca. COFA is sharing the building with the Assessment Department, which completed its move-in on March 16.

“The Center of Government project is about investing in facilities that will better serve our community for decades to come,” Tompkins County Administrator Korsah Akumfi said. “The successful transition of the Department of Assessment demonstrated that we can continue delivering excellent public service while these important improvements move forward.”

The move will take place over several days leading up to the opening date, and the downtown office will be closed to in-person visitors while the moving work is completed.

“Our priority is making this move as smooth as possible for the older adults and caregivers we serve,” COFA Director Lisa Monroe said. “While our address is changing, our commitment to helping older adults remain healthy, independent, and connected to their community remains exactly the same. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this transition and look forward to welcoming clients to our new office.”

Clients are encouraged to call ahead at (607) 274-5482 with any questions about appointments or services during the transition. The move is expected to last several years.
