ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Local law enforcement agencies are getting state support.

On July 23, Governor Hochul announced over $36 million in funding through the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) grant program to support targeted enforcement of people with a history of gun-related crimes. According to Hochul’s office, the program has resulted in a 52% reduction in gun violence in GIVE communities since she took office.

In Tompkins County, the Sheriff’s Office is receiving $220,650, and the Probation Department will get $50,485. The Ithaca Police Department was also awarded $150,485 to support GIVE operations.
