ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Tompkins County’s emergency cold weather shelter is preparing to close for the season.

County Administrator Korsah Akumfi shares the details.

If the temperature drops to 32 degrees or below after Tuesday, April 15, anyone in need of shelter during business hours can warm up at the Department of Social Services. The building is located at 320 West State Street in Ithaca.

To access emergency service after hours or on weekends, the county is directing people to contact the non-emergency dispatch at (607)-272-2444 to be connected to the DSS on-call service.

County personnel scrambled to get Code Blue operations up and running in Fall 2024 after the sudden closure of Saint John’s homeless shelter. The county is looking to relocate operations for the upcoming winter, as the former Key Bank could be deconstructed as part of the Center of Government building project.
