ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Tompkins County is taking another step toward building a permanent homeless shelter in Ithaca.
County Administrator Korsah Akumfi offered an update during the Tuesday, April 15 Tompkins County Legislature meeting.
In November, the county purchased land on Cherry Street in Ithaca for development of a permanent shelter for the unhoused. Meantime, Akumfi says there’s still a focus on finding a new Code Blue shelter.
Last year the county scrambled to set up the cold weather shelter in the former Key Bank building on East Tioga Street, which is being used for the upcoming Center of Government project. The Code Blue shelter closed on Tuesday.
