ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — The Tompkins County Legislature has approved a budget for 2025, but not before agreeing on a tweak.
Prior to a vote on accepting the spending plan, legislators voted to reduce the tax levy increase from 3 percent to 2.7 percent, which is lower than New York’s tax cap.
“There was a miscalculation our staff did leading us to think our tax cap was 4.45 percent,” communications director Dominick Recckio said on Ithaca’s Morning News. “[Tuesday] night it became clear just before the [Tompkins County Legislature] meeting that that number was actually 2.72 percent.”
“On a median-priced home of $300,000 in Tompkins County, that will result in an increase of approximately $115 on a tax bill,” Recckio explained.
The amendment to the 2025 budget led to legislators voting to adopt the spending plan.
