Tioga County institutes temporary burn ban through Black Friday

OWEGO, NY (CortacaToday) – A state of emergency has been declared in Tioga County over dry conditions.

Effective October 31, 2024, Legislative Chair Martha Sauerbrey has instituted a temporary burn ban to avoid out of control fires. No outdoor burning of any kind is permitted through the end of the day on November 29, 2024.

The move comes after DEC crews and others fought a wildfire that spanned nearly 24 acres in the Town of Berkshire on October 23, 2024.
