ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca’s heatwave is having an adverse effect on public transportation.
TCAT says service is being reduced “at least part of the day Tues., June 24, and possibly into Wednesday.” According to the transit agency, Monday’s high heat caused overheating and air conditioning failures, which resulted in some buses being switched out.
“When being forced to reduce trips, TCAT generally targets higher-frequency routes such as the 10, 30, 81 and 82, because those riders have less wait time before the next bus comes along compared to those depending on lower frequency routes.”
A heat advisory is in place until 8 p.m. tonight. TCAT suggests riders pay attention to the Bus Tracker for service alerts as the heat and humidity remains in our area.
