BINGHAMTON, NY (607NewsNow) – Seven people in the Southern Tier are headed to federal prison.

On June 8, the United States Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of New York announced recent convictions of 11 people in a drug trafficking ring, 7 of whom reside in Tioga and Broome Counties.

The group is accused of distributing large quantities of meth and other narcotics in Broome, Tioga, and Chemung Counties from 2019 to 2021.  They received the drugs from two men in Michigan. Some of the defendants also unlawfully possessed firearms as felons in the furtherance of their drug trafficking. Law enforcement seized more than 1.5 kilograms of meth, various other drugs, more than 65 firearms, cash, and ATVs in the investigation.

“The final sentencing in this case is a true testament to the perseverance and aggressive strategy of law enforcement in stopping illegal drug trafficking at its source,” said New York State Police Superintendent Steven James. “This sends a strong message to all those trafficking drugs in New York that we will not tolerate these threats in our state. With our partners in law enforcement, we will remain in full force to combat the infiltration of illegal drugs into our communities and the dangers they impose.”
