ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — A house on Ithaca’s South Hill has been damaged after a fire on Friday afternoon.

The Ithaca Fire Department says the first-responding firefighters on the scene around 3:15 p.m. saw smoke coming out of the basement of the 2-story home on Kendall Ave. in the town of Ithaca.

Additional crews arrived on the scene and brought the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes. No one was home at the time, but IFD says two cats died.

The home suffered “extensive smoke and fire damage,” according to an IFD news release. Investigators are still working on the cause of the fire, which did not result in any injuries.

Firefighters stayed at the scene for about two hours after the blaze was extinguished to cool down hot spots.
