OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) – The second murder trial in the Thomas Rath case is underway in Tioga County.
According to the Morning Times, jury selection, opening arguments, and witness testimony began last week in the case against 48-year-old Angelo Baez, who is charged with first and second-degree murder, kidnapping, and intimidation.
Last month, Joseph Howell, of Newfield, was found guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and three counts of intimidating a witness in the 2023 abduction and killing of Rath from the Ithaca homeless encampment known as “The Jungle.” Howell’s sentencing is set for January 13, 2025.
Jonathon Glennon, the only other defendant still facing murder charges among the original 13 people arrested, awaits trial after his recent extradition to Tioga County from the state of Maine.
