ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – Tompkins County is accepting applications for the next county administrator.

The county is hiring a recruiting firm to assist in the search to replace current County Administrator Lisa Holmes, who announced in April she would retire at the end of the year.

The administrator reports to the Legislature and serves as the county’s CEO, creating and executing the budget while overseeing government operations and working with numerous departments and community organizations. The chosen candidate will begin in 2025 with a starting salary of $180,000, and a working rate of $189,010 after 9 months. The wage was adjusted to ensure the wage was competitive.

“The next Tompkins County Administrator will be joining an organization full of dedicated public servants with a track record of innovation and excellence,” said Tompkins County Legislative Chair Dan Klein. “This position is an opportunity to work with employees and the Legislature on the needs and opportunities facing our community. We have nearly 30 departments doing great work, the Administrator has a great influence on how we carry out that work through the budget and operations of the organization. We’re looking for candidates who are eager to continue to leverage our new Strategic Operations Plan to realize our vision of all Tompkins County residents thriving in a supportive, healthy, safe, and inclusive environment.”

The Legislature seeks candidates “with 8-10+ years of administrative and management experience who understand complex organizations and local government. Qualified individuals who are consensus-builders, strategic thinkers, and good communicators should consider applying.”

More information and an application are available at the Tompkins County Civil Service website.
