AUBURN, NY (607NewsNow) – A group of residents is suing the City of Auburn.

According to FingerLakes1.com, the lawsuit alleges the city exposed people to toxins by failing to maintain and treat its drinking water supply, citing repeated harmful algal blooms and other pollutants, including disinfectant byproducts and biohazards, in Owasco Lake dating back to 2005.

Three plaintiffs who live within a 10-block radius have developed brain tumors they say are linked to long-term exposure to environmental toxins. The group seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

The case will proceed in Cayuga County Supreme Court.
