The State Route 34B bridge over Salmon Creek is being named after Peter Wheeler, who escaped from slavery in the early 1800s. Senator Lea Webb tells WHCU he made a significant contribution to Tompkins County history.

Governor Hochul made the Peter Wheeler Memorial Bridge designation official last Friday.
