NEWFIELD, NY (CortacaToday) – Registration is open for the next Citizen Preparedness Corps training session in Tompkins County.

Members of the National Guard and NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services will visit Newfield in two weeks for disaster training.  The free program is designed to help you prepare, respond, and recover from any disaster or emergency. A free preparedness kit will also be distributed to attendees, one per family.

“With severe weather events becoming more frequent and extreme, it’s more important than ever to be prepared for disasters,” said Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response Community Preparedness Coordinator, Geoff Dunn. “Come and learn how to develop family emergency plans and stock up on supplies.”

The Citizen Preparedness Corps training starts at 6 p.m. on July 23 at the Newfield Fire Station at 77 Main Street. It’s the only training in Tompkins County currently scheduled through September.
