ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) -The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response congratulates colleagues on a job well done.
Assistant Director of 911 John Halaychik says the 455 calls received by dispatch from Monday’s storms are significant.
“I want to extend my thanks and gratitude for the exemplary performance demonstrated by our 9-1-1 Center personnel,” said Halaychik. “I believe the 455 calls for service is the highest single-day volume we’ve experienced in the last 10 years, if not ever.”
The storm arrived Monday afternoon, bringing inch-sized hail, high rain, and heavy winds. Severe tree and power line damage left thousands of Tompkins County residents without power for extended periods. For some, it lasted days.
In addition to staff, Halaychik praised the collaboration and work of first responders.
“The way situations, communications, and notifications were made and handled was top-notch,” said Halaychik. “Everyone involved is to be commended for their professionalism and actions, both in the 9-1-1- Center and those first responder personnel in the field, who, in their feedback to us, were extremely grateful of the effort and coordination.
No injuries were reported.
