LANSING, NY (607NewsNow) – Planning for a project that could drastically improve connectivity in Lansing’s future is moving forward.
Steve Lauzun chairs the town’s Trails Working Group. They’re in the preliminary planning stages for a trail system called the Lansing Greenway, which would connect key areas in town.
One potential first phase of the Lansing Greenway comes from the town’s 2018 comprehensive plan for a more walkable town center. With 90% of the prospective land for the phase owned by the town, it could happen “relatively quickly” if and when funding is secured.
Lauzun says expansion to include the Lansing Central School District is a priority.
He adds he envisions future trail extensions from the schools to the marina and Myers Park, Salt Point, and Ludlowville, which could potentially be another first phase, and extensions from the town center towards The Rink, and eventually the Village of Lansing, with a possible ending point at the YMCA.
The group has received grant funds to begin conducting feasibility studies on the potential first phases of the project. The Trails Working Group is also looking to hire a consultant for a comprehensive trails master plan, which would likely take at least nine months.
