ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – Three Tompkins County municipalities will see pedestrian improvements.

Funding totals for the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation Alternatives Program were announced last week. The Town of Ithaca is getting $1,146,400 to construct a multi-use trail and lighting along a heavily traveled corridor of East Shore Drive. The improvements will run from the intersection of North Cayuga Street to the James L. Gibbs Drive intersection near Stewart Park.

The Village of Dryden receives $4,112,000 to construct new sidewalks along Mott Road, North Road, State Route 13, Enterprise Drive, Ellis Drive, Freeville Road, and Union Street. The Freeville Road and Union Street sidewalks will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility near Dryden schools.

The Village of Trumansburg has been awarded $2,656,000 to construct a new sidewalk system along Main Street near the Trumansburg Central School District.

Ithaca, Dryden, and Trumansburg are the only municipalities in the Southern Tier to receive funding. It’s part of $97.7 million in awards headed to 30 communities across New York. The NYS DOT is administering the federal funds.
