CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) – Two people have been indicted in a Cortland County child abuse case.

On October 11, 2024, 34-year-old Elicea Lloyd and 27-year-old Nicholas Lloyd were formally charged. The couple is accused of inflicting life-threatening injuries on their infant and toddler earlier this year. Cortland County District Attorney Patrick Perfetti said a tragedy was narrowly avoided.

“Without the intervention of emergency medical care, initiated by the daycare provider of the children, it is likely both would have perished,” said Perfetti. “My office is committed to ensuring that cases where children are harmed will receive vigorous prosecution.”

The Lloyds ultimately surrendered to State Police at the Homer Barracks. The victims, hospitalized in July, have since been removed from the Lloyd’s care.

Elicea Lloyd faces multiple felony counts of assault and reckless assault of a child. She could spend up to 25 years in state prison if convicted on the most serious charges.

Nicholas Lloyd is charged with multiple counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. He faces up to two years in county jail.

Motion dates are set for December 9, 2024.

An indictment is not a conviction; all persons are innocent until proven guilty.
