OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) — A pair of Owego motels are benefiting the unhoused.

Tioga County Social Services Commissioner Shawn Yetter said the Deepwell Motel and Sunrise Motel in Owego have been hosting the homeless on freezing nights, as part of the Code Blue program. The county has no dedicated shelter for the unhoused.

Yetter said seven people in the county benefited from the Code Blue program on Tuesday night. That number is down from early February, when 15 to 20 people were receiving warmth each evening.

Nearby in Tompkins County, legislators recently agreed to purchase land for a homeless shelter. Once constructed, it’ll be on Cherry Street in Ithaca.
