OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) – Owego’s Central Fire Station is at risk, according to Owego Fire Department (OFD) Chief Eric Hawkins.

The historic structure needs a roof replacement, and heavy rainfall is causing interior and structural damage.

In a June 9 Facebook post, Chief Hawkins said the power lines over the 114-year-old building must be shut down to perform the repairs, and NYSEG has yet to respond to repeated inquiries from OFD leadership, including a formal request letter sent “weeks ago.”

Hawkins adds that every day without action puts the building and his department’s ability to serve the public in jeopardy.
