OVID, NY (607NewsNow) – Leaders in Ovid have formed an official group to oversee the next steps in recovery efforts from last month’s block fire.

The Ovid Development Committee recently met to identify the short-term needs of affected businesses and the community. They discussed the site clean-up, which will require an environmental assessment before any new building can occur, realistic costs and timelines for reconstruction, and public sources for financial assistance.

The Ovid Fire Department says the committee was formed to communicate goals to the community and report on progress.

The committee includes Village Mayor Aaron Roisen, Town Supervisor Joe Borst, Fire Chief Timothy Westlake, Seneca County Economic Development and Tourism & Housing Committee Chair Jeff Trout, and Seneca County IDA Board Chair Bruce Murray.

In related news, a fundraiser featuring live music, a silent auction, raffles, and more is set for March 1.
