MARATHON, NY (607NewsNow) – You can learn more about a bridge project this week in Cortland County.

On February 12, the State Department of Transportation (DOT) will host an open house to discuss a proposed new crossing over Big Brook (Jenning’s Creek) on Route 221 in Lapeer. Experts will talk about what it will take to replace the old 1926 bridge and how the new structure will prevent flooding. DOT representatives will be available to answer questions.

The project is still in the design phase, but construction is expected to begin this summer. Crews will realign Route 221 to meet current design standards and utilize an off-site detour.
