ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Tompkins County health officials seek information about a dog bite in Ithaca.

On July 14, a person was bitten by an off-leash dog at Dewitt Park around 1 p.m. The pup is described as white with brown spots, possibly a pit bull or pit bull mix, and wearing a pink collar.

The dog’s owner appeared to be a woman in her mid-to-late 30s, approximately 5’5″, with a darker complexion. The dog and owner were sitting at a picnic table with other people, but officials say it’s unclear if they were with them or just sitting near them.

According to the Tompkins County Whole Health Department, the owner claimed the dog is vaccinated but did not provide a name or phone number for verification.

Authorities want to rule out rabies treatment for the victim.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
