ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – State officials warn a new scam is going around.

According to the New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA), scammers using international numbers are sending text messages attempting to collect tolls. The text includes an unactive payment link requiring you to share sensitive personal information, including credit card or social security numbers. It will ask you to reply with “Y” to receive the link.

NYSTA officials say they’ll never ask for that kind of information through a text or email, and all real texts will come from the number 39769. Additionally, authentic text communication will feature the official associated websites tollsbymailny.com or e-zpassny.com, and the text will begin with EZPNY.
