ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – The New York State Department of Health has updated its guidelines for eating locally caught fish.
The recommendations specify the number of fish you should eat monthly broken down by species. Officials say it’s based on new data reflecting levels of mercury. The statewide recommendation is shown below.

However, the recommendations do vary based on location. The tool is searchable by county or waterbody, including smaller bodies like rivers, ponds, and creeks, though officials note that “advice applies to tributaries up to the first impassable barrier.”
