ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Meteorologists warn today could be dangerously hot.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for much of the region, effective at 11 a.m., warning that “hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.”

Heat indexes are expected to reach values of 95 to 100.

NWS advises the public to limit strenuous outdoor activity if possible and take extra precautions when outdoors. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and check on relatives and neighbors.

The heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. in Broome, Chemung, Madison, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Southern Oneida, Tioga, Tompkins, and Yates Counties.
