ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A Newfield woman faces charges after allegedly violating the Child Passenger Protection Act, or Leandra’s Law.

On April 19, Ithaca Police were called to North Meadow and Third Street around 7:30 p.m. for a reported car accident. Witnesses say the driver at fault had fled the scene and was driving erratically. Officers located the driver, identified as Elvira Good, at a nearby business.

According to IPD, Elvira Good was intoxicated and driving with a 5-year-old in the vehicle. Due to the violation of Leandra’s Law, Good is automatically charged with felony aggravated DWI. She is additionally charged with numerous traffic violations and three misdemeanors, including endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated unlicensed operation.

Good will appear in Ithaca City Court at a later date.
