NEWFIELD, NY (607NewsNow) – There’s a new superintendent of schools in Newfield.

On May 1, the Newfield Central School District (NCSD) Board of Education announced the appointment of Jesse Harper to the role.

Harper has over 20 years of experience, including the last nine in Steuben County as superintendent in the Arkport Central School District. He was chosen after a widespread search led by TST BOCES superintendent Lily Talcott.

According to NCSD, Harper oversaw over $20 million in capital projects at Arkport, developed the first Universal Pre-K program, and successfully implemented a district-wide behavioral intervention plan, making him a good fit in Newfield.

“Jesse brings with him a wealth of experience that we are excited to see applied to our district,” stated Board President Christina Ward. “Some of his past proven skills include exceptional communication with staff, students, and community; enhancing opportunities for students; and working with students to create a student-centered learning environment, while cultivating leaders and growth from within.”

Harper is taking over for the soon-to-be-retired Eric Hartz, who is set to leave in June after 5 years at the helm in Newfield.

“I am excited to roll up my sleeves and work alongside the students, staff, families, and community members of Newfield to continue building on this strong foundation and make a positive impact for all our learners,” said Harper in a statement.

Mr. Harper’s first day is July 1.
