OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) – Owego is set to welcome new skaters to the village.
Officials will cut the ribbon at a brand-new skate park around noon today. The $500,000 project is part of a $2 million investment in the overhaul of Marvin Park, completely funded by Owego’s 2019 Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant.
“The Village of Owego’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative award is making a huge impact with key projects like the newly constructed skate park at Marvin Park that will benefit both residents and visitors,” said New York Secretary of State Walter Mosley. “It’s exciting to see all the progress that is being made here in Owego, and I can’t wait to see the complete transformation of Marvin Park and the entire community in the future.”
The state-of-the-art park, designed by Seattle-based firm Grindline Skateparks, honors the memory of Owego’s Ryan Roofner, whose passion for skating and spirit helped inspire the vision for the park. Roofner passed away in a 2009 car accident at age 21.
After the grand opening celebration, skaters are invited to break in the new park.
