CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) — Proposed legislation in Cortland County would make hunting more accessible for teens.

The law would allow licensed 12 and 13-year-olds to kill deer. The teens would need to be with an experienced adult at all times.

Lawmakers say hunting is a valued tradition for many families. They add the legislation would contribute to deer management practices.

The proposal is part of a temporary state conservation program that runs through 2025.
