ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – The public is safe after a bomb scare in Owego.

On May 14, Owego Police responded to a report of a “possible improvised explosive device (IED)” at 77 Liberty Street in the village around 9:30 a.m.

The area was evacuated for safety while the Endicott Bomb Squad was called in to assess the scene along with Bomb K-9 Units from Tompkins County and Cornell. The Owego Fire Department and Owego EMS were on standby for assistance.

The IED was “rendered safe,” and the investigation is ongoing. The Owego Police Department has not released any further information.
