ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A child missing from Ithaca has been found in another state.
On July 7, the Ithaca Police Department (IPD) received a request from Tompkins County Child Protective Services to aid in a missing child complaint. According to a release from IPD, a 9-year-old was reportedly taken from the city after a court order of protection was issued on July 3.
IPD says the suspect was known to the child, and there were no serious safety concerns for the child or the public. After developing leads, IPD coordinated with the Pawtucket Police Department, who were able to locate the youngster safely.
Authorities in Rhode Island are working with Tompkins County Child Protective Services to develop a safety plan for the 9-year-old.
Names will not be released due to the nature of the complaint and the child’s age. IPD says the investigation into the child’s removal from New York is ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the crime or may have information relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the Ithaca Police Department.
