ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Measles is rising in the Southern Tier.

Health officials say Steuben County now has ten confirmed cases after the most recent test results.

The unvaccinated resident, a contact of a previous case, is safely isolating and is no longer considered contagious. The Steuben County Health Department is conducting contact tracing and has identified potential exposure sites.

In related news, Cayuga County confirmed its first positive measles case on September 8. Measles has previously been confirmed in multiple nearby counties, including Cortland, Tioga, and Seneca.

No cases have been confirmed so far in Tompkins County, but Medical Director Dr. William Klepack says the vaccination rate is not as good as it should be. The Tompkins County Whole Health Department urges everyone to complete the full course of MMR shots.
