MARATHON, NY (607NewsNow) — The Village of Marathon is considering ways to revamp its business district.

The village was awarded a $4.5 million NY Forward grant in March. Marathon Mayor Scott Chamberlin said revitalization ideas are now being compiled.

“There is an open call for projects,” he said.

Village residents are encouraged to submit ideas here. Chamberlin said many suggestions are under consideration.

“Some will address housing, others will address eating establishments,” he said. “One project may address perhaps having a fitness center in the village.”

Chamberlin said some residents are pushing for recreational projects, like constructing a walking path or improving the athletic fields.
