CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – A fugitive is under arrest in Cortland.

On December 1, Cortland Police responded to a disturbance call around 2:15 p.m. on Clayton Avenue.

While en route, Cortland PD learned one of the involved parties was 21-year-old Malachi Darden, who is wanted in connection with a May 14, 2024, homicide in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Additional units were requested.

When officers arrived, they surrounded the residence. Darden then allegedly jumped from a second-floor window and fled on foot for several blocks. He was taken into custody at gunpoint and suffered a leg injury during the chase.

The U.S. Marshals Service had been actively seeking Darden, who had had ties to the Bronx and Lackawanna and Luzerne counties in the Keystone State, for 19 months.  Darden is charged locally with resisting arrest and being a fugitive from justice.

He awaits extradition to Pennsylvania on charges of criminal homicide, murder, and nonnegligent manslaughter.
