BINGHAMTON, NY (607NewsNow) – Criminal charges have been filed in a Binghamton fire that claimed a life.
Authorities say the source of the February blaze that took the life of veteran firefighter John “JR” Gaudet was “human involvement.” According to Fox 40, 36-year-old Patrick Shea was taken into custody on March 13 after investigators developed him as a suspect.
Shea is accused of setting the February 12 fire near the intersection of Main and Court Street. He is charged with arson and second-degree murder.
Gaudet was an 11-year veteran of the Binghamton Fire Department and father of three. The 40-year-old also attended SUNY Cortland from 2006 to 2008.
