ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – The search for Tompkins County’s next administrator is over.

On Friday, October 4, 2024, the Tompkins County Legislature named Korsah Akumfi to lead county operations. Akumfi, who will take over for retiring County Administrator Lisa Holmes, currently serves in the same role for Schoharie County, and has a background in budget development. Both were key factors in the selection process according to Legislative Chair Dan Klein.

“Korsah comes to Tompkins County with recent experience in local government in New York,” said Klein in a statement. “Tompkins County is excited to have his experience at Schoharie and his background in customer service and financial management.”

Akumfi previously worked with the New York State Department of Labor, and in finance-related roles in Ghana and the United Kingdom. He received his Master of Public Administration from Binghamton University with an emphasis on economic development, local government management, public policy, and finance.

“I am honored to have been selected to serve as the County Administrator for Tompkins County,” stated Akumfi. “Tompkins County is a vibrant, progressive community, and I look forward to working with the County Legislature, county staff, and community partners to build upon the county’s many strengths and to address key priorities. My goal is to hit the ground listening, to gain a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the county, and to develop collaborative solutions that will have a positive impact on both current and future generations of Tompkins County residents.”

The Tompkins County Legislature will officially confirm Akumfi’s appointment by vote at its October 15, 2024, meeting. He will begin on January 6, 2025.
