ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – At least half of the Tompkins County Legislature will be new in 2026.

So far, six legislators are not seeking reelection, including Dan Klein, Rich John, Deborah Dawson, Amanda Champion, Susan Currie, and Anne Koreman. Additionally, two new districts will add another pair of lawmakers to the full legislature, totaling 16.

Officials say increasing the legislature size helps to follow municipal boundaries more accurately and aligns with censure requirements.

For Randy Brown, the current District 8 representative, the high turnover rate makes him anxious.

Brown wants to give incoming lawmakers a head start.

District 5 Representative Anne Koreman says she’s already begun and will continue to assist potential new legislators.

On Wednesday, Brown announced on Ithaca’s Morning News that he will seek one more term, win or lose.
