LANSING, NY (607NewsNow) – Coming up in Tompkins County, another chance to learn how to respond to disasters.

The Citizen Preparedness Corps training heads to Lansing in August. The course teaches you how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a crisis. It’s a collaboration with the NYS Division of Homeland Security and local emergency management.

“With severe weather events becoming more common and more extreme, it’s now as important as ever to be prepared,” stated Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response Community Preparedness Coordinator Geoff Dunn. “This is a great opportunity to learn how to properly develop family emergency plans and stock up on supplies.”

The Lansing Fire District is sponsoring the event, along with non-profit group Love Living at Home (LLH), which received an AARP Community Challenge Grant to support emergency preparedness.

The Citizen Preparedness Corps is scheduled for August 11 at the North Lansing Fire Station on Auburn Road. Registration is required.
