ULYSSES, NY (607NewsNow) — Local lawmakers are nearing a decision on a land donation.

The Ulysses Town Board gathered on June 10 to review paperwork for the potential acquisition. The roughly 15-acre donation on Cold Springs Road would come from Marvin and Allison Pritts, who currently live on the road.

If the town accepts the donation, the land will have to be used as a public park for recreation.

“The town can’t decide in the future that it thinks it’d be a great place to store salt for the highway department,” Ulysses Town Supervisor Katelin Olson said. “That’s not what this land was intended for.”

Recreational uses for the property have yet to be finalized. Walking trails and pickleball courts were mentioned as possibilities at a previous meeting.

The board next gathers on June 24 at 7 p.m. at Ulysses Town Hall.
