ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – A tight budget means 5 to 7 positions at the Tompkins County Public Library (TCPL) could be cut.

Christine Johnson is President of UAW Local 2300, which represents professional and support staff at the library in addition to around 12oo people at Cornell. Among pleas from community members and TCPL workers at the October 30 Public Budget Hearing, Johnson urged the county to restore the full budget for TCPL.

Tompkins County Legislative Chair Dan Klein says budget deliberations are ongoing. The 2025 spending plan next heads to the Budget, Capital, and Personnel Committee for a November 14 meeting.  Lawmakers are expected to vote at the full meeting of the Legislature on November 19, 2024.
