ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – An Ithaca Common Council member is not seeking reelection.

According to the Ithaca Voice, Fourth Ward Alderperson Tiffany Kumar will not run for another term. Instead, the Cornell senior says she will commit to ‘on-the-ground organizing’ after graduation, citing concerns with President Donald Trump’s administration and the 2026 elections.

Kumar, who represents the Collegetown area, has made a name for herself during her time on the Common Council, openly criticizing Cornell University during last year’s UAW Labor Strike, and calling for the school to contribute more money to the City of Ithaca.

Kumar, who won the Democratic primary in June of 2022, has said she will support any nominee endorsed by the local chapter of the Working Families Party.
