ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Tompkins County faces a big deficit. 

Legislative Chair Dan Klein tells WHCU in beginning to shape the 2026 budget, a recent audit showed expenses exceeded revenue in 2024 by roughly two million dollars. 

Klein notes it’s the largest deficit he’s seen in all his years as a Tompkins County legislator but adds the county administrator is beginning to take a closer look at budget items.

A vote on adopting the 2026 budget is currently slated for this fall.
