ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A children’s toy has been recalled after a death was reported.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Backyard Kids KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchens have utility hooks on them that pose a strangulation hazard.

A 23-month-old Oregon child choked to death in February 2023 after his shirt got caught on one of the hooks while climbing on the toy.

The majority of the affected products were black and light gray with wood-like countertops. The model number is 53411 and appears on a sticker on the back of the kitchen.

Around 192,000 were sold online at KidKraft.com, Amazon.com, and Walmart.com from 2018 through July 2025.

Backyard Kids has agreed to provide free replacement hooks to consumers, who are advised to remove immediately stop using the play kitchens and remove the original hooks.
