ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca’s former acting police chief has retired.
John Joly walked out of the Ithaca Police Department on Friday, April 25 after a 25-year career in law enforcement. Joly, who was deputy chief, became acting chief in 2021 until taking a leave of absence in 2023. On Facebook, IPD paid tribute to their one-time leader.
“Once at IPD, Deputy Chief Joly held many roles within the department to include SWAT, PBA president, Patrol Sergeant, Sergeant of Operations, Patrol Lieutenant, Investigations Lieutenant, Acting Chief of Police and then finally Deputy Chief of Professional Standards. Deputy Chief Joly finished his career with pride and though we are saddened to see him go, we are happy for him and his family and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
Joly first joined Ithaca’s police force in 2005.
