ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The Ithaca Common Council hears tonight about a proposed new program.
Deputy City Manager Dominick Recckio will present framework of a community responder program, which comes from the Reimagining Public Safety initiative.
In a memo to the council, Recckio says goals of the program include reducing “disproportionate minority contact with police and the criminal justice system.” Recckio is also looking for feedback from the Common Council over the next few months. Recckio also says he’ll work with the Community Justice Center to begin further analysis in advance of legislative and budget proposals” to the Common Council this fall.
Tonight’s Common Council meeting at City Hall on E. Green St. starts at 6 p.m. It’ll include a public hearing on the 2025 draft HUD Entitlement Annual Action Plan.
