ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca city officials are mapping out sidewalk work.
A series of meetings have concluded, and Mayor Robert Cantelmo tells us they learned a lot. “This process is about identifying where we need to build new sidewalks, and where is the highest need,” Cantelmo said Monday, Aug. 4 on Ithaca’s Morning News.
Even though the meetings have ended, Mayor Cantelmo says the need to hear from Ithacans about sidewalks remains strong.
“We’ve got almost 100 miles of sidewalk in the city, and while we have a vigilant and dedicated staff, the sidewalks you see might not be the same as what they see,” Cantelmo said.
As work begins on crafting a sidewalk improvement plan for 2026, Cantelmo said public hearings will be scheduled over the next few months.
