ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Sidewalks around the Seneca St. garage have re-opened.

Ithaca city officials say scaffold installation is complete, and an independent review has confirmed it’s safe for people to walk. The sidewalks and garage were shut down in April after concrete from the 3rd floor fell to the ground.

“Reopening these sidewalks is an important step in restoring access and connectivity downtown,” Acting City Manager Dominick Recckio said. “Public safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate the patience of residents, businesses, and visitors while these protective measures were installed and independently evaluated.”

Officials decided to permanently close the garage. It’ll eventually be dismantled after more than 50 years of service.
